Open Question: When did these 2008 stories happen?

1. U.S. ELECTION: Obama emerged from Election Night as a decisive victor and a symbol for the world of America's democratic promise. But he reached that point only after a grueling battle with Clinton for the Democratic nomination and then an often-nasty showdown with the McCain/Palin ticket in the run-up to the election. 2. ECONOMIC MELTDOWN: The bad news kept coming — collapses of Wall road giants; huge stock market losses; plummeting home prices and a surge of foreclosures; desperate times for U.S. automakers. It added up to the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and will cost the federal government well over $1 trillion in various rescue and stimulus packages. 3. OIL PRICES: The global economic angst produced hyper-volatile energy markets. The price of crude soared as high as $150 a barrel in July before crashing to $33 this month. In the U.S., the average price for a gallon of regular gas peaked at $4.11, then plunged below $1.70. 4. IRAQ: The much-debated "surge" of U.S. troops helped reduce violence after more than five years of war, but Iraq is still buffeted daily by bombings, ambushes, kidnappings and political uncertainty. A newly ratified U.S.-Iraqi security agreement sets a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal by 2012. 5. BEIJING OLYMPICS: China hosted the Olympics for first time, drawing praise for logistical mastery and condemnation for heavy-handed security measures. The games themselves were rated a success, highlighted by the record-shattering performances of swimmer Michael Phelps and sprinter Usain Bolt. 6. CHINESE EARTHQUAKE: A huge quake in May killed 70,000 people in Sichuan province and left 5 million homeless. Many thousands of kids were among the victims — authorities said about 7,000 classrooms were destroyed in shoddily built schools. 7. SARAH PALIN: Few Americans outside Alaska knew much about its governor when Republican John McCain picked her as his running mate. That changed rapidly. To her conservative admirers, she was a feisty, refreshing change from most politicians; to her critics, she was in over her head, and worthy of every the lampooning she endured. 8. MUMBAI TERRORISM: Ten attackers allegedly sponsored by a Pakistan-based Islamic group terrorized India's financial capital in November, killing 164 people in coordinated attacks on hotels, markets and a train station. India's perennially uneasy relations with Pakistan were badly strained. 9. HILLARY CLINTON: She didn't win, but Clinton came closer than any other lady in U.S. history to becoming a major party's presidential nominee. Her determined primary campaign, waged vigorously even when it seemed a lost cause, inspired millions of women across the country — and helped persuade Obama to pick her as secretary of state. 10. RUSSIA-GEORGIA WAR: The two nations waged a five-day war in August ignited by a Georgian artillery barrage on the breakaway region of South Ossetia. Russia responded with a steer deep into Georgian territory, causing severe economic damage and aggravating already troubled Russia-US relations. THE DATES? thanks

Open Question: What's the deal with using ethanol for fuel?

I don't receive it. Ethanol is made from corn. Using corn for fuel reduces the amount of food available and drives up the price of food. Ethanol contains 2/3 the energy per gallon that gasoline does, so these ethanol blends aren't as powerful thus reducing your gas mileage. PLUS, growing corn requires fertilizer inputs. Fertilizer is made with natural gas. And you still need gas to power the farm equipment. I'd be surprised if they receive as much energy out in ethanol as they put in to make it. WHY ARE THEY TRYING TO USE ETHANOL FOR FUEL? I could understand it if it was using thrown out vegetable oil from McDonalds but not fresh corn!!

Open Question: Do you think that our biggest problem is the lack of good leadership?

Consider this quote from Lee Iacocca. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from its death throes? He's now 82 years old and has a new book, 'Where Have every The Leaders Gone?'. Lee Iacocca Says: 'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder! We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our boat of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'Stay the course.' Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'toss every the bums out!' You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to talk up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq , the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking difficult questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you? I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a battle I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the first.) Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to guide when your world comes tumbling down. On September 11, 2001 , we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here's where we stand. We're immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble. Our borders are like sieves. The middle class is being squeezed every which way. These are times that sob out for leadership. But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have every the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you receive the point. Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and toss away our shampoo? We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and every we know how to do is react to things that have already happened. Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm. Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you're going to do the next time. Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, what are we going to do about it? Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debit, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry. I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on Fox News will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change? Had Enough? Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a flame. I'm speaking out because I have wish - I believe in America . In my lifetime, I've had the privilege of living through some of America 's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises: The 'Great Depr The 'Great Depression,' 'World War II,' the 'Korean War,' the 'Kennedy Assassination,' the 'Vietnam War,' the 1970's oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If I've learned one thing, it's this: 'You don't receive anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or building a better future for our kids, we every have a role to play. That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a "Call to Action" for people who, like me, believe in America '. It's not too tardy, but it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the crap and go to work. Let's tell 'em every we've had 'enough.' Make your possess contribution by sending this to everyone you know and care about. It's our country, folks, and it's our future. Our future is at stake!!

Open Question: Green Living, Environmental, Energy Efficient, and Durable Home; Info/Education for planning to build one?

If you watch the "Green Planet" channel, and have seen the show "World's Greenest Homes", well then you might receive the idea. I want to build an almost completely energy-efficient home, that is good, maybe even great, for the environment. Solar panels, wind turbines, and whatever else there could be that'd help. I don't mind using recycled material for construction and furniture, and I definitely don't mind if I have to have sturdy steel beams and etc. As long as it's a very durable(in fact, I was hoping for: Durable enough to withstand natural and/or man made disasters), I don't really mind style, but usually it seems the architecture of such houses ends up looking amazing anyway. If anyone knows of materials and furniture that can "really" last, that'd be nice. I was hoping someone out there had some good ideas on how to learn every about this nice of stuff. Websites, books, E-books, guides. Prices to use on whatever you may know of don't really matter since this is for my possible future. I don't need it to be too specific in every these areas, in fact, just respond to the title of this question if that's okay! Oh yeah brandon h, lol. I'll have to update my picture, my hair "is" clip.

Resolved Question: Why do liberal politicians punish poor democrats by blocking legislation that would allow for cheaper fuel?

Fuel for home, car, etc.... Why did the liberals block the legislation that would have allowed further drilling and increased supply -so when we go through the cycle of high gas prices in the future we can hedge the prices by supplementing supply with reserves from new drilling? Liberals were more concerned with 'enriching oil companies' than helping their possess constituents, are their motives greedy or what? Obama might be a good future president, but his pie-in-the-sky preaching about wind, solar, and millions of green energy jobs is a good 25 years from being realistic - if ever. Is this another instance of liberals not knowing what they believe in or am I just pointing out another flaw in the liberal mindset. Just want to point out that the largest oil reserve in the world is located in Colorado. 2+ Trillion barrels.... it's ours, we can keep it. THere is nothing that says any oil discovered has to be sold 'at the market' or whatever babble I read.

Resolved Question: How much would you pay to offset -- literally -- the impacts of flying?

California's San Francisco Airport is on its way to becoming the first in the nation to offer passengers a chance to purchase carbon offsets to mitigate the impacts of their flight. San Francisco's Airport Commission has authorized the program, which will involve a $163,000 investment from SFO, but is still working out the details with 3Degrees. "We'd like people to cease and consider the impacts of flying," said Steve McDougal, executive vice president for 3Degrees, a San Francisco firm that sells renewable-energy and carbon-reduction investments. Airport kiosks will offer the offsets to passengers, and although prices have not been set they could be as low as $2 or as high as $36 for international flights. Michael Wara, an expert in this area and an assistant professor at Stanford Law School says that offsets ought to be registered after they have been sold, with guarantees that they will not be used again. Several airlines have been offering this service for nearly a year -- Continental, Delta, Virgin Atlantic and Qantas every offer passengers a means to satisfy their conscience and benefit the environment. What do you make of this experiment, and how long do you think it will be before other airports offer passengers a similar deal? http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/02/offsets-in-the-air-in-san-francisco/ http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/12/24/MNIR14PSQF.DTL http://www.3degreesinc.com/

Resolved Question: Do I have a mental condition that maybe unkown of origin?

It every started in 2004 and I don't know the root cause of it but I noticed in myself and others have noticed that I sometimes talk out noisy when something irritates me and I have taken control of that part and don't do it anymore because I simply don't think of it but occasionally silly shows like family guy and past things that are irresistible to giggle at may cause me to giggle with a whisp of air, I don't giggle outloud or people will really think I am mentally but its actually more air based rather than vocal. I don't do this a lot and I have started taking Omega fish oil because its said to receive rid of omega 6 and supply the brain with dha and it actually worked for a former meth addict who had anger and social problems. Becoming easily mad over past things is a sign of a mental problem and I sometimes got mad but also have gained control of that. I don't know if doing data entry and sitting for long periods of time with a clenched jaw affected my brain but I suspect it put extra pressure on my head and i have bought slimtek anti clench for day use and that has helped receive rid of the migranes. I also noticed that in 2002 when I worked in shipping and receiving I didn't even think about anything in my head and felt excellent in body and mind because I was consistently moving packages around and I have recently applied for UPS to start the package handler so I can do this on weekdays and on weekends I have security officer job in which I sit down without clenching. For some reason doing data entry affects my breathing and makes me clench, I have to actively remember to keep taking in more air because I look myself yawning frequently even though I got enough snooze and others have noticed it and yawning frequently is a sign of lack of oxygen. I looked up talking to yourself on this website and a lot of people said its normal but don't do it in public, as long as you don't answer yourself you'll be fine. Maybe its having too much energy that causes me to think to much. I have started meditating and noticed the fish oil has given me effects like more focus and less thinking and definately more focused memory. A month ago when I didn't take the fish oil during patrol my supervisor said "is everything alright" because I was pressing patrol buttons that I had a feeling I already pressed with the detox pipe again after walking past it. However now, I know that I for sure pressed it or not and maybe the increased breathing techniques and fish oil improved my memory and focus. I was gonna look a doctor about possible alzheimers at 25 years of age but now I am doing better and will put in my notice at Wells Fargo to cease doing data entry because my whole head doesn't feel right and as difficult as I try I look myself clenching my jaw because I have to focus on doing 2000 keystrokes an hour. I can receive tuition reimbursement from UPS and won't need the pressure of doing 2000 keystrokes an hour at price of my fingers, jaw and head. This is exactly the reason why I quit NCS pearson, I was making 4000 a month doing overtime and snooze deprived. Corporate security and UPS are best for me because security is mostly sitting and ups is work that gets you fit and healthy. I was raised by an aunt who used to talk to herself alot and these days she appears normal but I had to receive away from her when she put a knife on my back with some odd mad weird sort of look but she didn't actually stab me. She used to call her kids "You bastar.., lesb..." with anger on her face that you have to look to believe. But despite that she took care of her kids and didn't hit them. I heard her alcoholic husband used to step on her head difficult back in Somalia. Forgot to mention she also called her possess kids "Wacalow" which is somali for a child born to unmarried parents but it's more severe when said ni somali. Penny, I should have posted in health and not religious area. This is not for preaching, I am muslim and we are every in this together but in the end we are raised up from the grave alone.

Resolved Question: How much should I sell my dog for? Please help?

I have a 8 month old Great Dane. She is female and blue in color. She is healthy. home trained, but loves to be outside. She is a very friendly and loving dog, and great with kids. The problem is I can't take care of her right now. I don't have the money or time. I'm pregnant and out of work. I adore my dog but there is no way I can afford to buy her the food she needs and pay for vet check ups. I also don't have the time or energy to walk her and being a big dog she needs exercise. I paid $800 for her. She is not registered but I have the papers for the person I sell her to so that they can register her. She has shots that she still needs. So my questions are: What would be a good price to sell her for? If I got her registered, how much more could I sell her for? Thanks for taking the time to answer and for any advice. Merry Christmas! Yea, I'm not going to regret it. And there was no contract saying I had to take her back to the breeder. And people need to cease judging and saying I need to clip the internet and sell the computer, this is not my internet or computer so before you say things like that you need to think first. I never said that this is my computer. Sorry, I just don't like it when people judge to soon, just like anyone else.

Voting Question: Given the Wests dependence on foreign oil and gas doesn't it make sense to develop nuclear energy?

Here in Ireland we are nuclear free, something which the majority has always favoured Anyway, I have always been against nuclear power but recently it is begining to make sense. Russia wants to up their prices for natural gas. Europe depends very heavily on Russian gas, not a good thing. Developing nuclear energy alongside solar, wind and water energy makes sense, doesn't it? Solar, wind and water energy will not be enough on their possess unfortunetly. Is nuclear energy very detremental to the enviornment? Thanks

Voting Question: Is this a fair price for a room?

I have a pal who moved minnesota with literally nothing in august and a pal of his said that he can stay free until he got on his feet and was able to pay rent. he is a student and currently has a part time job that only makes about 850 per month. at first, since the home is fully paid for and she doesnt possess it, she asked that he pay half of the bills. now she wants 350 for rent. 85 for half of the energy and 40 for cable which is about 475 per month, more than half of his check. the price isnt the problem but its the home he isnt sure if this is fare price because he gets one room, with cable the home is old with no walls and mold in the bathroom, gross, broken furniture, she eats his food without asking and he has to follow strict home rules, but still be expected to pay half. so my question is was this a fair price for this place or should he look for his possess? in minnesota in this area, you can find a one bedroom for about 550 per month and he would move with his girlfriend in the apartment if that was the last resort? the area doesnt really matter...ive already told you the price of an apartment in that area...so base the price of a room off of the apartment rate.

Resolved Question: Trying to raise capital?

I am trying to sell stock for a company that has a social network site, a job site, a professional social site and a soon to be launched energy drink. Does anyone know of any easier ways? Lists aren't doing it and have been a waste of money. The stock is at a great price and the business plan along with our story, advertising and marketing campaign are highly impressive. I would adore some feedback. Thank you!

Resolved Question: Obama hipocrite or deserving ?

Sunday, October 26, 2008 3:21 PM By: Ronald Kessler Article Font Size receive Breaking News Alerts never spam Share Print CommentsKAILUA, Hawaii — While on vacation in Hawaii, the Obama family is staying in a $9 million single-story oceanfront home in a laid-back neighborhood over the mountain from downtown Honolulu Barack Obama’s trips to Hawaii on a chartered Boeing 757 each cost more than twice the price of Sarah Palin’s new clothes. Brad Blakeman, who was in charge of scheduling for President Bush, says a Boeing 757 costs about $20,000 an hour for fuel, crew, and maintenance. Since a trip to Hawaii entails 10 hours of flying time from Chicago, the total cost for each round-trip comes to about $400,000. Obama used the Boeing 757 for trips to Hawaii over the summer for a vacation and again last week to look his failing grandmother. Admirable though that visit was, “By Obama using a private jet to go on a purely personal visit to look his grandma, he’s wasting not only energy, but he’s using the money that his supporters have given him for campaign purposes,” Blakeman says. “It’s a purely personal visit paid for with campaign funds.” On the other hand, the media are highlighting the Republican National Committee’s purchase of $150,000 in clothes for Palin, even though the dresses will be donated to charities. The New York Times played the story on page one. do you desenters knnow how big a 757 is it is used for cross alantic tracel it is not tiny by any means.

Voting Question: Are those responsible for escalating the price of gas so high, now remorseful for breaking the economy's back?

Who is to blame for those high gas prices that bled into so many other sectors of the economy that resulted in so many businesses declaring bankruptcy or are now on the verge of such? Well, we can point the finger at OPEC in their manipulation of supply, demand and price. There were the speculators and financial players as well who kept driving the price of oil up in the public markets when the price could have fallen if left up to its possess supply and demand dynamics. There are lots of others who contributed to the escalating price, including consumers and commuters who were hooked on their gas guzzling SUVs and couldn't take (or didn't have) public transportation. There was even the weather and hurricanes that disabled production in the Gulf of Mexico and reduced supply, thus affecting price. But now the price of gasoline has fallen to more acceptable levels...but not without having left a huge swath of destruction in it's path. Is the lower price now a function of somebody going, "OOOPS! I got so greedy, I milked a big portion of the herd to death! Better clip the price now and wish some recover or that others don't die on me too." And is that too little too tardy? You would have thought people would have learned a big lesson in the 1970s with that energy crisis that let to block-long lines at the gas pump and outrageous prices. We recovered, but did not restructure to keep it from happening again. We kept building bigger and bigger cars and did little to arrive up with alternate fuels or improve efficiency to the point it could be, the way they have done in Europe (although I understand it is the Environmental Control people with the catalytic converter requirement who contribute much to keeping American car fuel efficiency below it's potential). I'm just curious now when I look how far the price of gasoline has fallen, if that might be the culprit's attempt to say, "Hey I'm sorry. I lost my head. Here's a lower price now. I will be reasonable again. Just keep buying gas and don't peter out on me. I need your money." Or are they just setting us up to STICK IT TO US AGAIN, as soon as they can receive away with it?

Resolved Question: Dell Laptop: Which LCD screen should I choose?

High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440x900) & 2.0 M [Included in Price] Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1920x1200) & 2.0 M [add $125 or $4/month1] This is on a 15" XPS 1530. At the size of the screen I think the cheaper, thinner and more energy efficient LED back-lit is the better option. Is this resolution really noticeable on the more expensive option? Can I output to a TV at 1080i with this? Is output just a measure of the video card? I rarely take a laptop on the go and will use it as a HTPC. I stream a lot of videos, but they're hardly HD quality.

Resolved Question: So I read in the news how we are all driving less and using less gas. This is good, right? So what are some?

members of congress trying to do, persuade congress to lift gas taxes as much as $.50 per gallon. Their reason, not enough taxes coming in to pay for road repairs and improvement. I guess they don't understand the connection between higher gas prices and fewer miles being driven. Why don't they use some of that bail-out money to receive serious about alternative sources of energy? Their other suggestion was more toll roads or another tax on total miles being driven. What are your ideas on this subject.

Voting Question: What parts of this political platform would you support?

I'm not sure if there are simply a lot of teenagers on here or the back-and-forth discussion is just at that level. So, let's every figure out if we have anything in common rather than my-side/your-side. Let's face it, we're usually asked to pick between "bad" and "worse" anyway. Please answer Y/N... 1) Is energy independence a key national security issue? 2) Does the size of the national debt threaten US economic stability? 3) Would single payer health care (without changing HC delivery) reduce the cost of health care and slow price increases? 4) Is the US military currently underfunded and over-taxed? 5) Does the US trade deficit threaten US economic growth and national wealth? 6) Should the federal government step back and allow states to play a greater role in their possess futures? 7) Do you believe that a social safety net ("welfare") is important for periodic aid to individuals and families in transition? 8) Is it reprehensible that a family lose their home and retirement savings because a child gets sick? 9) Should the federal tax code be simplified? 10) Should it be a priority of government to fund infrastructure improvements for the next 5 years? Re: 6) With the removal of federal influence and funding for issues that relate to states, federal taxes would also decrease and states would increases taxes based on what they felt was an important issue for their state. Re: 9) Flat tax would certainly be simple, but I'm not ruling out progressive taxation. I'm suggesting elimination of 95% of write-offs in favor of a generally lower tax. If mortgage interest and education writeoffs were the only two, then everyone could us an EZ-1040 equivalent form and do their possess taxes. Re: 4) By underfunded and over-taxed, I'm referring to the mission given them, regardless of whether you agree with it. Money to contractors to feed soldiers spoiled food is part of the military budget but does not fund the military. Are we honoring those that served with our funding levels for the VA? Are we honoring those in current service with heavy rotations to Iraq and Afghanistan? Are we honoring those leaving the service by shorting them a couple days of service so they don't qualify for the GI Bill?

We're talking about the car workers for the Big 3 vs. the car workers for the other non-unionized car workers in roughly the same geographic region, doing roughly, the same nice of work and requiring roughly the same skills. Can we do an "apples to apples" comparison of what the unionized car workers make versus the non-unionized car workers? What about trades that require equal skill but are just not automobile-oriented? Is their expertise and skill valued as highly in the salaries and wages they can command as compared to the United car Workers? Or have the UAW unions enjoyed a higher than average wage base compared to other American Workers such that those salaries receive blended into the higher price of American cars as well as the lack of factory modernizations to keep pace with changing energy needs as well as consumer demand in America and overseas?

Resolved Question: essay on alternative energy..suggestions?

The government is incapable of making the proper decisions to help our country. For countless reasons we as the American people are suffering and in a state of financial crisis. This is every due to the culprit of big oil and government. Not only is our economy withering our air quality is also depreciating. For these reasons I stand firm in my decision for a negative ballot on the resoultion that the United States federal government should substantially increase alternative energy incentives in the United States. We urgently need change, not another failed attempt, in order to remedy our nation and the environment. To convince you of the incompetence of the government here is a piece of evidence showing the failure of a supposed aid to prevent global warming. by Patrick J. Michaels http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=1167 "The Kyoto Protocol will have no discernible effect on global climate--in fact, it is doubtful that the current network of surface thermometers could distinguish a change on the order of .19 degree from normal year-to-year variations. The Kyoto Protocol will result in no demonstrable climate change but easily demonstrable economic damage." To put it in simple terms the United States signed the Kyoto Protocol and agreed to produce less emissions then the 1990 levels. To make a long story short, it basically has no demonstrable effect whatsoever on the environment , but it is very costly and it puts our economy further in to turmoil. To further stress the incompetence of this treaty, it had an alteration of a mere .19 degrees celsius in a time period of 50 years, yes count them 50 years. The article also goes on to stress the fact that even a thermometer could probably not be able to distinguish the change of .19 on annual variations. Since government interference is not a option we are willing to cope with, I would like to add the suggestion of sticking to the status quo, we shouldn't infringe on the rights of the people, and we should allow the free market to distribute alternative energies. Some evidence to support this claim comes from the Cato Institue. http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=9767 by Peter Van Doren and Jerry Taylor This article appeared in Google Knol on October 24, 2008. "Economists agree that as long as energy prices are accurate (that is, as long as prices reflect total costs), the "right" (optimal) amount of investment in alternative energy will occur because capitalists like profits. If alternative energy makes economic sense, market actors will quickly figure that out from the price signals they receive and invest accordingly. Only if prices are inaccurate is there the possibility that government can improve market outcomes through taxes on or subsidies of particular energy sources." This evidence proves that government interference with the free market will hinder its ability to sell alternative energies, it will slow down production and make the consumer pay more. Since the price of alternative energies are reflected on the total cost, the government is an unneeded asset, and imposing things such as subsidies would actually hurt the market, by raising the cost of the product and forcing the consumer to once again, pay more. Additionally, guess who brought cars to our nation. Yes, the free market. How about cameras or even cell phones? Yes, once again the free market. If there is an incentive for a product then someone will start to sell it. It is that easy. The incentive is there and many people are already starting to buy items such as wind turbines and solar panels. The problem, is making them more accessible for the everyday consumer. Government interference, as I stated before would hinder this needed accessibility. The added benefits to taking the rights steps will far exceed any harms you could arrive up with. To eliminate these harms we shall use alternative energies proposed by the free market. It is imperative that I urge to you the delicate ecosystems that are being harmed by big oil and the solutions that are staring us right in the face. "In 2002 about 40% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions stem from the burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity generation. Coal accounts for 93 percent of the emissions from the electric utility industry. "US Emissions Inventory 2004 Executive Summary

We are facing a critical problem which can have demonstrable effects on our planet if not remedied. Carbon dioxide emmisions, pollution, and deforestation every culminate to provide an immense chaotic predicament, Global Warming. Thankfully, there are countless ways to solve this crisis, such as wind, solar, hydroelectricity, nuclear, and countless other sources which produce zero emmisions. In order to directly target and reduce climate change we must rid ourselves of the culprit, oil companies. Not only do oil companies produce amble amounts of carbon dioxide that account for 93 % of emissions, they also make it virtuall

Resolved Question: Coal. America has it. No Money... but lots of Coal. Use it?

Is it OK to Burn Coal? Should we increase our reliance on Coal? The most abundant domestic energy resource in America? The United States is Broke. We are, face it. Why send more dollars overseas to buy foreign oil? Our environment is precious. But the state of our technology requires us to be heavy energy consumers. While we promote the development of very expensive alternative energy sources, what will we do to sustain the current cost of energy? Oil below $40.00 a barrel is just a temporary thing. The average price of oil over the last 2 years has jumped from 60 to 90 dollars a barrel. We forget the gas madness of this past summer. At what point do we realize that we cannot afford to ignore one of our richest resources? Coal. We have it. Why not use it? Coal for electric cars. Homes. everything..... Is there a way to make coal an acceptable energy source?

To me, this looks like a bad sign and indicates that some of the big players are expecting things to receive much, much worse. Voting Question: Will you help American become great again?

My Grandpa sent this to me a while ago and it definitely touches a nerve. Thought I would pass it on, and hopefully someone if not many of us are compelled to take action. He sent it to me a couple months ago so some of the things may seem old news... Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from it's death throes? He's now 82 years old and has a new book, and here are some excerpts. Lee Iacocca Says: 'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. This is America , not the damned 'Titanic'. (Iacocca elaborates on nine Cs of leadership, crisis being the first.) Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to guide when your world comes tumbling down. On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A Hell of a Mess: So here's where we stand. But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have every the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative, communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you receive the point. Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and toss away our shampoo? We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and every we know how to do is react to things that have already happened. Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane, or demanding accountability for the decisions tha t were made in the crucial hours after the storm. I'm speaking out because I have wish I believe in America

Resolved Question: how does "supply and demand" work when the "supply" can be manipulated and therefore the price manipulated ?

Resolved Question: Aren't there more important issues than race right now?

I voted Obama, so don't receive me wrong. I appreciate he's the first black President. But, if we want to receive rid of racism, we need to cease focusing on race completely. As Martin Luther King said, we are every equal. We need to focus on the problems we every face every day: Gas prices, war, the economy, energy, etc. I realize racism still exists, but the fasted way to receive rid of racism is to cease focusing on race altogether. Why can't we focus on the real issues? Why does the media keep bringing up the fact that he's black? Who cares at a time like this?

Voting Question: To play Blu Ray on Media Centre PC, does the motherboard have to be HDCP compliant as well as the video card?

I'm upgrading an old SFF GX280 2.8Ghz Dell PC. It's a modest machine, but I want to add a low profile HDCP compliant graphics card. I am seriously considering the 3450, more specifically, the HIS-HD3450-D2LP which offers: PCI-E 256MB 64-bit DDR2, Dual Link DVI, TV Out, HDTV, HDMI, Superscalar unified shader architecture, 40 stream processing units, 64-bit memory interface , DirectX® 10.1 / Shader Model 4.1 support, PCI Express® 2.0 support, ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU support for highly scalable performance, High-speed 128-bit HDR (High Dynamic Range) rendering, Up to 24x Custom Filter Anti-Aliasing, ATI Avivo HD video and display technology, Built-in HDMI and 5.1 surround audio, Support for the ATI Radeon DVI to HDMI adapter, Unified Video Decoder (UVD) for Blu-ray and HD DVD, ATI PowerPlay energy conserving technology (Include 2 Single Slot Low Profile Bracket). The go-price is around $50. The power requirements for this model are listed as higher than what my Dell SFF is rated at (only about 130w, but a lot of forum discussions seem to hint that the Dell machines are often underrated). Also, according to a PC Authority review this model graphics card has 'ATi PowerPlay' which apparently keeps power consumption to a minimum by shutting down portions of the card that aren't being used, so I'm willing to take that risk (unless someone out there has tried what I'm about to and has failed - by every means, let me know). BUT, my core question is regarding Blu Ray playback. Even if I receive this bargain graphics card, is my old Dell SFF motherboard going to let the team down?
